Free Crochet Pattern: Daily Shoulder Bag | Summer Edition

This is a crocheted piece.

This is a small, slightly lacy drawstring shoulder bag made with crochet.
The key feature is that it has a shoulder pad to prevent the shoulder straps from coming undone when you put it on your shoulder.

The shoulder strap is made of woven thread cord, so you can adjust the length as you like.
You can shorten it to make a mini handbag, or change the way you thread the string to use it as a regular drawstring bag.
The bag part has a round bottom, so it could also be used as a drawstring bag to wrap something.

It is large enough to hold a bifold wallet, smartphone, etc.
It's small, so it would be cute to use it as a pouch for a child.

The sample piece is knitted with linen yarn.
The knit fabric has a cool, sheer feel, making it the perfect yarn for spring and summer.

Perfect for shopping in the neighborhood or for strolling around in warm weather.

The yarn I used this time was purchased quite some time ago, so it seems to be no longer in production, but it is a Colt Lake linen yarn called ``Anouk linen'' by Yarn Pierrot.

Finished Size

When laid flat, it is 19cm long x 19cm wide, with a diameter of 11.5cm at the bottom (long knit part).

Instructions

Please refer to the crochet pattern along with these instructions.

①Start knitting from the bottom of the bag.
Start by casting on a loop, then crochet 16 double crochets in the first row (the chain at the start counts as one double crochet).
For rows 2 to 5, increase the number of stitches by 16 each row.
The number of stitches per round is 32 for the second row, 48 for the third row, 64 for the fourth row, and 80 for the fifth row.

②For rows 6 to 20, knit a pattern without increasing or decreasing the number of stitches.
From the 7th row onwards, gather the chains from the previous row into a bundle and knit.
The gap in the knitting on the 20th row is where you will thread the shoulder strap.

③ Knit the edge on the 21st row.
Make one full round of 7 double crochets and then cut the yarn.

④Knit the shoulder pad parts.
Cast on a chain of 24 stitches and increase stitches at both ends each row.
For the first row of knit stitches, in the first half, pick up one strand on the other side of the cast-on chain and the back of the knot, and in the second half, pick up one strand that you didn't pick up in the first half and knit it.
In the middle of the second row, crochet one chain stitch between the four knit stitches to create holes for the string to pass through.
Once you have completed the third row, cut the yarn.

⑤To make the shoulder strap (total length approximately 175cm), knit 420 stitches of thread cord.

⑥ Knit the decorative motif.
Start by making a loop and knitting six double crochets in the first row.
On the second or third row, gather the chains from the previous row into a bundle and knit.
Once you have completed the third row, cut the yarn.
Sew a button into the center of the motif.

⑦ Pass the thread cord you braided in step ⑤ through the string hole on the bag and also through the shoulder pad part.
While you are threading the string through the bag, you can also thread the string through two or so gaps in the second row of decorative motifs and attach them together.

There are two places on the bag where you can pull out the straps, so please check the knitting pattern (please pull out the shoulder straps symmetrically on the other side, which is omitted in the knitting pattern).
Once you have finished threading the string, sew the ends of the string together to secure them in place.
