When you are engrossed in crocheting, have you ever found yourself becoming interested in the tools you use?
Of course, I can't let go of my beloved, wonderfully easy-to-use crochet hooks, but for some reason I started to wonder what other crochet hooks there were out there.
After trying out various crochet hooks from easily available domestic manufacturers, I moved on to foreign crochet hooks.
When I search for "crochet hook," I find many crochet hooks I've never seen before, and my interest never ends.
It's not just tools that will broaden your interests; once you've knitted all the Japanese creations you can, you might want to find your favorite recipes from overseas.
In such cases, to determine which size crochet hook to use, you will need to compare the sizes of crochet hooks used in Japan and overseas.

Comparing crochet hook sizes
So, I decided to compare the sizes of Japanese crochet hooks with those available overseas (for when I'm shopping for crochet hooks overseas, as I'm a tool lover).
There is a table at the bottom of the page.
One of the things I looked into was the crochet hook sizes in America, where knitting is popular.
Craft Yarn CouncilWe used the standards of this organization, which aims to establish industry standards and guidelines for knitting, as a reference.
The other is a historic German knitting needle manufacturer.AddiCrochet hook size.
This is based on the size chart for Addi crochet hooks sold at US retailers.
Addi's crochet hooks have a unique design that is different from Japanese ones, making them a must-have for tool lovers.
In the table below, the left side is Japanese crochet hooks and the right side is overseas crochet hooks, with the dividing line being millimeters.
Please use this as a reference if you ever need anything.
Please note that the notation and sizes may vary depending on the manufacturer, so please use this as a guide only.
When shopping, please check the product description and packaging for accurate information.
