Free Crochet Pattern: Pattern: Asanoha (Hemp Leaf) Tote Bag/Horizontal | Summer Edition

This is a crocheted piece.

This is the second in the Asanoha Tote series. It's a flat, horizontally crocheted bag. It's just large enough to fit a B5 size item sideways.
I knitted it with a medium-weight cotton linen yarn, which gives it a soft feel. One of the joys of knitting is how the look can change completely depending on the yarn you use.
Since it's the season when clothes become thinner, I made the handle long enough to be worn as a shoulder bag.
It would also look cute if you changed the length of the handles to make it into a handbag. Try finding the shape you like best.

Yarn and Crochet Hook Size

Three 40g balls of medium-weight cotton linen (approximately 97m) are used.

Instructions

① Start knitting from the bottom of the bag. Cast on 56 chain stitches at the bottom.
As shown in the knitting pattern, increase stitches at both ends and knit a circular stitch until the fourth row.
The first row has 116 stitches per lap, the second row has 120 stitches, the third row has 124 stitches, and the fourth row has 128 stitches.
Knit rows 5 to 7 without increasing or decreasing the number of stitches.

②Starting from the 8th row, we will start weaving the hemp leaf pattern.
If you knit around the side once, you will have a total of 32 hemp leaf patterns.
Knit up to row 17 without increasing or decreasing the number of stitches.
The knitting method for starting and finishing is different for odd and even rows, so it's easy to make a mistake, so please check each row as you knit just to be sure.
The number of stitches is different from that of the vertical bag, but the sides are knitted in the same way (only the number of stitches is different).

③ On the 18th row, make one full circle using a knit stitch and a chain stitch, and on the 19th to 21st rows, make knit stitches.

④ In the middle of the 22nd row of knitting stitches, knit a chain to make the handle.
For me, the position on the knitting pattern was just right for where to start knitting the chain, but the angle of the knitted fabric may differ depending on the knitter, so if the handle position is not in the center, try adjusting the position where you start counting while maintaining the balance of the stitches (18, 28, 18).

⑤The handle of the bag in the picture is made with 80 chain stitches. To make a handle the size of a handbag, you would need about 40 chain stitches.
Try adjusting the number of stitches on the chain to get the length you want.

⑥For rows 23 to 26, knit 4 rows of knit stitches without increasing or decreasing the number of stitches.
