Free Crochet Pattern: Table Mat | All-Season

This is a crocheted piece.

This crocheted table mat will add a touch of elegance to your dining table.
The sample piece is a little small, but the size can be adjusted, so if you knit more you can make it the size of a lunch mat.

If you increase the number of cast-on stitches to make it longer, it could also be used as a table liner.
In addition to using it as a table mat, try hanging it over a basket to hide something or placing it under decorations in various other ways.

The sample piece uses linen thread, as it can be washed easily.
Since Christmas is just around the corner, I chose these colors to liven up my Christmas dinner!
Please choose your preferred material depending on your purpose.

While knitting, the knitted fabric may warp, but you can pull it tightly to reshape it, and then use a steam iron with a floating handle to set the knitted fabric in place.

Instructions

①Cast on 11 chain stitches and begin knitting.
For the first row of double crochets, on one side you will pick up the strand on the other side of the cast-on chain and the back knot, and on the other side you will pick up the remaining strand of the cast-on chain that you didn't pick up earlier and crochet.

At the end of the row, insert the needle into the starting chain and knit a double crochet (this double crochet is likened to the two corner chain stitches).

②For each row, turn the knitted fabric inside out, stand up, and begin knitting.
For the second row onwards, the double crochets are knitted by scooping up the gaps in the pattern of the previous row.

In each row, increase the number of stitches at the four corners.
The method for increasing stitches here is the same for each row, so repeat this process for each row and continue knitting until you reach the desired size.
There is not much difference in the appearance of the front and back of the knitted fabric, so it is up to you whether you finish knitting on an even or odd number of rows.

③ Once you have knitted up to the last row (the 18th row is the last row in the sample project/knitting pattern), do not cut the yarn, but continue to knit the edge on one side.
To knit the edge, turn the knitted fabric inside out and begin knitting.
It looks nice if you use the side with the edge facing out as the front of the mat.

The knitting pattern shows how to finish knitting on the 18th row (an even numbered row) and then crochet the edge, but you can also follow the same method if you finish knitting on an odd numbered row.
Once you have finished crocheting one side, cut the yarn.

④ To knit the edge on the other side, attach the yarn and start knitting.
