Half double crochet (HDC)

Here we explain how to crochet the "double stitch" using video and still images.

Double crochet is one of the basic knitting techniques, and produces a fluffy, slightly thick knit fabric with a height somewhere between single crochet and double crochet (about two chain stitches).
The medium double crochet stitch often appears in patterned knitting and is also used to create small ponytail stitches.
The head of the double crochet stitch is shifted to the right of the foot of the double crochet, so when you pick up a stitch from a double crochet, be careful where you insert your needle. Because of this shift, when you knit a double crochet in the round, the knitted fabric tends to diagonally to the right.
