This is a crocheted piece.
This is a crocheted ball that can be made by connecting motifs.
I made a slightly larger ball and gave it as a baby gift to a friend.
Previously,Bowling pinI also knitted the ball that my brother is holding in the photo, but because it is made in the same way as a soccer ball, it has many parts and was difficult to put together.
So I came up with a simple version. It's made of 12 pentagonal parts. This will make your thighs perfectly round.
The boy holding the ball in the photo is his 2-year-old brother.
If you knit the parts smaller with fewer rows, you can make a small ball. To make a larger ball, it's quicker to use two strands of yarn.

①Knit 12 pentagonal parts.
There are six colors in total, and I knitted two of each color (see photo below).
The end thread is hidden in the photo (lol), but it is hidden inside the ball so no processing of the thread is done.
To knit the part, start by casting on a loop, and knit 5 knit stitches in the first row.
I continued knitting, increasing the number of stitches with each row, and knitted this ball part up to the fifth row.
If you want to make the part bigger, try increasing the number of rows you increase using the same rule.
For example, in the 5th row, add one stitch every 3rd knit stitch, in the 6th row add one stitch every 4th stitch, in the 7th row add one stitch every 5th stitch, and so on.
One way to make it smaller is to reduce the number of rows, but if you stop after the third row or so, the stitches of the knitted fabric will look coarse, so it might be better to try knitting with a thinner yarn.
As an aside... I'm also starting to knit a large ball with the same color yarn, and I've increased the number of stitches using two strands up to the 13th row. It's not finished yet, but it looks like it will be about the size of a cushion.

②How to join them:Configuration diagramPlease check.
The edges of the parts are fastened together with an overlock. The ball in the image is sewn together using the back side of the knitted fabric of the parts as the outside.
First, make two sets of pieces that are joined together as shown in the diagram.
Next, we'll glue the two sets together.
The photo above shows one set glued together as shown in the diagram.
Before sewing everything together, make sure to stuff the fabric with poly wadding. The finished product will look neater if you pack it in tightly.

I made this because my daughter is due to be born in the fall.
I'm looking forward to seeing how much they like it and how much they enjoy playing with it.
