I have crocheted countless bags over the years.
Even after I started designing and knitting my own items, I still have some pieces that I'm very fond of, but there is one bag that made a lasting impression on me that I came across in a book when I was still a beginner at crocheting.
When I was a beginner, I would borrow a lot of knitting books from the library and knit many of the pieces I liked.
So I don't really remember the name of the book, but it was a crocheted bag that I saw in some book.
It was a long, horizontal bag with an integrated handle, knitted with natural beige yarn and featuring a border pattern created by alternating knit stitches and patterned stitches.
It's simple and the knitting is beautiful, and I fell in love with the design at first sight.
Of course, I borrowed the book that had this bag in it and tried to knit it, but even after looking at the knitting pattern and the accompanying notes, I just couldn't figure out how to knit the pattern!
Then, around that time, I was visiting my parents' house, but I don't remember exactly, and I think I might have told my mother, who doesn't crochet (but does crochet lace), that I didn't know how to crochet this symbol...
Eventually, my mother completed knitting the bag, and the pattern was exactly as in the book! She loved it and used it regularly.
I was surprised that my mother, who mainly knits with knitting needles, had crocheted a bag, but I have never heard of her knitting a bag before or since.
Before that, my mother would never knit anything unless she liked the design.
It just so happened that the bag I had was exactly what I liked, and my mother loved it so much too. Parents and children really do have similar tastes.
If you're wondering if I could knit that bag, the answer is yes!
Thanks to my mother's help, I was able to complete it successfully.
Then, by chance, I gave the bag as a gift to my mother's sister (my aunt), so it became a family piece.
Having memories associated with your creations is something that people who love making things by hand have in common.
I once again feel that I want to make each and every recipe with care.
