You may often come across the term thread cord when using it as a part of a crocheted project or when using long strings in a project.
Thread cord is tighter and thicker than chain stitches, and can be used to create more three-dimensional strings than braids.
It is somewhat similar to a knitted fabric made by chain stitching and slip stitching, but when knitting long lengths, it is easier to knit with a thread cord, so you may want to use either depending on the length you need.
When crocheting, you only use the yarn attached to the ball of yarn, but when crocheting a thread cord, you use two strands of yarn: the yarn attached to the ball of yarn and a strand of yarn that you have pulled out in advance and is three times the length you want to crochet into the thread cord.
